Examination and project work

Course credits are acquired through an examination that consists of the following:
– project work
– project work discussion
– written test

The project work consists of a software development exercise according to MPI parallel
processing paradigm. A detailed spec of the assignement will be published here in due time.
Project works are assigned well before Christmas vacations to groups of maximum two
students. Each project has to be delivered on the day of a scheduled exam day and is discussed one wear later (the exact date is published in due time)
The project has to be carried out both on owned PC and on a contributed VM on Google Cloud Platform. Hints on setting up an MPI environment will be available in due time here. Registered students (enrolled on the Kiro platform web site for course) will receive detailed instructions (email message) to redeem a voucher for free access. Also:
1) at this link a summary of the steps to redeem the voucher
2) at this link, a compulsory short questionnaire to enter the code of the voucher
for statistical purposes.
Students are requested to be proficient in the use of the Compute Engine service of the Google Cloud Platform
and are required to read a set of documentation pages listed here. The notions in these pages are a requirement for proper project deployment and may be verified in the final discussion of the project.
The project work discussion consists of argumented questions/answers on each project and on the GCP environment.
Each group gives a short speech (English preferred not mandatory) to introduce the discussion: 15 minutes with a maximum of 15 slides.

The written test consists of questions and exercises on all subjects covered in lectures
(save  parallel programming).

Project work (and associated discussion) and written test are independent and can be taken
in any order in the scheduled dates.

Project work subjects and associated rules for 2023-2024 are available here.
Requests for  projects 2023-2024 have to be posted here. Usually, no more than two groups can apply for the same project subject (FIFO assignement !) – exceptions granted upon discussion with the professor.
